AI agents for businesses that do the agreed work

I build an agent that works within a business process: processing documents and inquiries, drafting messages, and routing the next step. You choose what it can access and when a person must approve an action.

  • One business process
  • Permissions and approvals in place
  • First version in 1–2 weeks

What is an AI agent in a business?

A business AI agent is software that can use tools through a language model and take the next steps in an agreed process. A chatbot answers a question; an agent can, for example, enter inquiry details into a system, check a document, or prepare a draft response. Its actions are bounded by a specific workflow and the access it is given. The term “AI employee” is sometimes used for this kind of assistant, but an agent is not a real employee and does not act as an independent party responsible for its actions.

AI agents operate only within the permitted tools and agreed workflows. I define what information they use, which steps they can take on their own, and where an action requires human approval.

What does an AI agent do in a business?

Building AI agents starts with recurring work that has a clear input and next step. For example, an agent can help with tasks such as:

  • Processing documents and inquiriesExample: the agent reads an incoming inquiry, extracts key details, and assigns the case to the right person for review.
  • Drafting and routing customer emailsExample: the agent drafts a reply to a customer's question and routes an exceptional case to the responsible employee.
  • Finding sales leads in registriesExample: using agreed registry data, the agent prepares a list of companies for a salesperson to review.
  • ReportingExample: the agent compiles inquiries from a given period and prepares a summary with references to the source data.

An agent may also work as part of existing software if its user interface or integration allows it to read and change the necessary information safely.

How I build an AI agent

  1. Choose one process: map the current steps, inputs, exceptions, and the result a person needs.
  2. Set permissions: connect only the information and tools required for the chosen task.
  3. Add approval: a person reviews an action in advance if it is risky or affects an external party.
  4. Keep a record: agreed activity logs make it possible to see what the agent did and what input it used.
  5. Demo every week: review real examples, improve the workflow, and decide what to test next.

The target for a first version is 1–2 weeks once the process and necessary access have been agreed. For example, I built an AI search with source citations for the Environmental Portal, covering Estonian environmental data; it is a search solution, not a business workflow agent.

Security and data handling

I start with the minimum permissions necessary. The agent does not get access to bank accounts or passwords. Sending emails, making payments, and deleting data require human approval; I apply the same principle to other irreversible actions or actions that affect external parties.

Together, we choose whether a cloud or local model is suitable for the task. When a cloud model is used, the data sent to it is processed in the model provider's environment; data processing by a local model depends on its configuration. Before building, we agree on what information the agent can see, where it goes, and how long logs are kept.

Price and timeline

  • First call · freeWe map one workflow and check whether an agent is a suitable solution.
  • Fixed price in writingI provide the scope and price in writing before development starts.
  • First version · 1–2 weeksWe agree on the initial timeline after clarifying the process and access.
  • Maintenance · optionalWe can agree separately on monthly maintenance and its scope.

Limitations

An AI agent may misinterpret input, assume information that is missing, or make mistakes even after a workflow has been tested. That's why a person must check important outputs and decisions. An agent supports employees; it does not replace them.

I do not build solutions intended for illegal work or promise a specific increase in revenue. An agent is suitable only for a process with a clear purpose, data, and person responsible. If simple automation would produce a better result, I will say so before making an offer.

My previous work also includes Terrapoint, which took first place and won €5,000 at a national forest-data hackathon. That recognition applies to this project, not to AI agent results.

Questions

What is the difference between an AI agent and a chatbot?

A chatbot mainly answers questions. An AI agent can use tools with agreed permissions and take steps in a workflow, such as collecting inquiry details or drafting an email. I require human approval before sending, paying, or deleting anything.

What tasks can an AI agent do for a business?

An agent can process documents and inquiries, draft and route customer emails, find sales leads in registries, or prepare reports. The exact work depends on your process, integrations, and the permissions granted.

How quickly can the first version of an AI agent be ready?

I usually build the first version in 1–2 weeks after we agree on the scope and necessary access. The exact timeline depends on the process and the systems to be connected.

How do you keep business data and actions under control?

I give the agent only the permissions needed for the agreed work. Sending emails, making payments, and deleting data require human approval; I do not give it access to bank accounts or passwords. We choose together whether to use a cloud or local model and agree on how data will be processed.

Can an AI agent replace an employee?

No. An agent helps with agreed recurring work steps, but it can make mistakes and does not replace an employee's judgment or responsibility. Important decisions remain with people.

How much does an AI agent cost for a business?

The first call is free. After mapping the scope, I provide a fixed price in writing before development begins. The first version is ready in 1–2 weeks; if you wish, we can agree separately on monthly maintenance.
